ABOUT
In detail
Muangwane (mwaŋgwanee) is a shrine housed in a grass house at the centre of Bamunkumbit Market Square. It honours Ndongbare, the hunter and founder whose story links the community to the present-day Balikumbat plateau.
According to local history, Ndongbare discovered this land while hunting and the people settled it after leaving Mbashe. The shrine is built in his memory and remains one of the village's most important sacred sites.
**Note:** The shrine is part of the traditional protocol of the community and visitors must be accompanied by a guide and seek permission before entering the enclosure.
