ABOUT
In detail
What is today known as Bamunkumbit Health Center (BHC) was created in 1979 by the Catholic Mission as a Health Post or Outreach Center for Vaccination, located in Balom quarter Bamunkumbit. In 1984, the very first catholic sister (Nurse) was sent from the catholic mission Ndop Parish to the Health Post, transforming it into a Dispensary with a Pro-Pharmacy. In 1993, the Cameroon government took over the Dispensary and sent the first Chief of Health Post. In 1999, Plan International assisted the community to build modern structures. Today, the Bamunkumbit Health Center operates several departments including Consultation, Laboratory Pharmacy, Maternity, Vaccination, and the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI). It has significantly increased health awareness, improved immunization, and made modern health services accessible. It was the only government health institution that operated and served the whole of Balikumbat subdivision at the peak of the Anglophone crisis. Challenges include lack of staff, infrastructure, equipment, and modern maternity facilities, as well as local beliefs about illnesses.
