The first ever formal school was established in Bamunkumbit in 1951 by the Roman Catholic Mission under Rev Father Bildaberg. The school known today as the Catholic School Bamunkumbit started in the Bamunkumbit palace under the reign of Fon Ngwafong III. The first batch started with an enrolment of 40 pupils and the very first teacher posted in the school was called Mr Agha’a Ndifon. The school at that period operated only classes 1 and 2 and standard 1 and 2. Pupils promoted to standard 3 continued in Babanki or Ndop.
